Google Donates $1.5 Million to Chicago Schools & Chance the Rapper's Charity
Chance the Rapper's SocialWorks charity got a big boost from Google on Wednesday, after the tech giant donated $1 million to Chance's non-profit, which aims to give Chicago youth access to programming and resources to reach their full potential. Chance announced the big donation while visiting Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Academy during a coding session with students.
Along with the $1 million donation to SocialWorks, Google also donated $500,000 to Chicago Public Schools' CS4All Initiative, which will help teachers build computer science and arts curriculum.
Google.Org Principal Justin Steele spoke on the donation, “The research says that 65 percent of grade school kids are going to be working in careers that don’t exist today. We don’t know exactly what those jobs will look like, but we know the skills they will learn through coding, like critical thinking and creative problem solving are going to be critical for the future.”
